"EASTER SONNET"
How strange that I should feel so near to Thee
When in the past my mind did not conceive
Of all the things Thou shouldst have meant to me
And I did doubt. But now I do believe!
The sun, emerging through the dawn, did kiss
The Cross of Calvary and light the earth
With hope and faith so strong it did dismiss
The fears and doubts I had. O hour of birth!
In mist more clear than mid-day sun, Thy love
Inplants itself within my heart, and I
Rejoice, and know that Heaven’s up above
To bring me peace enduring when I die.
To know Thou died for it! And I shall fight
For such reward, defended by Thy light!
